Third Biennial Symposium

HIAA’s Third Biennial Symposium will be held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York from Thursday evening, October 18, through Saturday, October 20, 2012. The HIAA conference is the biennial forum for the presentation and discussion of papers on various aspects of Islamic art history, and is open to all, regardless of nationality or academic affiliation. The overarching theme of the Third Biennial Symposium is “Looking Widely, Looking Closely.”

The deadline for submission for proposals was October 17, 2011. Proposals for both individual papers and pre-arranged panels are now being reviewed by the Program Committee. The Program Committee will group individually-submitted proposals into sessions, with the expectation that some sessions will be interdisciplinary. Notice of acceptance or rejection will be sent [by e-mail] by January 15, 2012 from HIAA2012symposium@gmail.com.

The 2012 Symposium Program Committee:
Sheila Canby, Metropolitan Museum of Art
