- Examine recent developments in scholarship that study Muslim societies in both past and present.
- Situate the study of Islam and Muslims in relation to broader discussions on the construction of identity.
- Critically evaluate the dichotomy of ‘Islam and the West’.

- The course fees only cover the tuition fees of the programme. Participants are responsible for their accommodation, travel, health insurance, meal cost, etc.
- International participants are also welcome to participate in this summer school. Any participants, who may require a visa to travel to Lisbon, should contact summerschool.ismc@aku.edu.
- There will be course pre-reading materials, which will be shared with the participants, and we expect participants to read these readings before summer school begins.
- The course will be taught in English.
- Participants are requested not to make any evening commitments during the course because there will be evening engagements.
- Participants will receive an information pack after registration.
- Programme fees are non-refundable.
