Assistant Professor: Religion, Migration, and Diaspora and/or Indigenous Religions

Assistant Professor, Religion, Migration, and Diaspora and/or Indigenous Religions

Florida State University’s Department of Religion invites applications for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of religion, migration, and diaspora and/or Indigenous religions, to begin August, 2024. For both areas, we are interested in scholars whose work demonstrates the potential for excellence in research and teaching. The geographical and historical areas of specialization are open; the preference is for expertise in areas that will broaden the strengths of the department.

We welcome applicants, including advanced ABDs and early-career PhDs, from a broad array of disciplines in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. Areas of potential specialization include, but are not limited to, ecology; cultural heritage; gender and sexuality; race and ethnicity; health and wellness; performance and/or music; media and material culture; politics; religious experiences of migrant and/or diaspora communities; social movements; and transnational or trans-regional religious networks.

Applicants must demonstrate evidence of an independent program of scholarly research with the potential for yielding significant peer-reviewed publications. We especially welcome candidates with experience in collaborative scholarship, fieldwork, and mixed-media, curatorial, and public-facing work. Candidates must also demonstrate promise of a strong teaching contribution in the context of a comprehensive religious studies program (BA through PhD). The successful candidate must have the PhD in hand by August, 2024. For more information about our department and programs, please visit http://religion.fsu.edu.

For full consideration, applicants should submit 1) a cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, and 3) supporting material (writing sample of chapter or article length, unofficial transcripts) to http://jobs.fsu.edu (job ID 56207) by Friday, December 1, 2023. After initial review of applications, the search committee will contact position finalists to request teaching, research and service statements. This position requires three confidential professional letters of recommendation submitted on each applicant’s behalf; directions for this process are detailed in the FSU job ad.

Questions may be sent to the search chair, Michael McVicar, at mmcvicar@fsu.edu.
